Chapter Ten

“Is he coming to pick you up?” Ravinder asked, digging through Alfred’s closet. “Where the hell did you put that pair of black shoes you bought last winter?”

“They should be in there,” Alfred replied. “And no. He’s sending a car to get me. There are a few things he needs to get done before he can leave, so yeah.”

“A car…okay.”

“What was that?”

“What was what?” Ravinder stood and rested his hands on his hips. “Are you okay with him just sending a car for you? I mean, this is the first time you’re meeting his mother. I would think he would come for you.”

Alfred shook his head and picked up his shirt. He held it up in front of himself and stared in the mirror. “Don’t make a mountain out of an anthill. He’s a busy man and all the times so far that I’ve needed him, he’s been there. He’s never once canceled on me and always makes time for me. Just because he’s sending a car doesn’t mean anything big.”

“Well, as long as you’re good with it. These wealthy men they tend to throw money at things and people…”

“And Darius knows I don’t want his money.”

“Good, then.”

Ravinder went silent so Alfred glanced back to see his friend was busy rooting around in the bottom of the closet again. That short exchange had him rethinking the whole thing. Meeting one’s mother was a big step in any relationship and they hadn’t even had sex yet. “Damn,” Alfred muttered.

“What’s the matter?”

“I don’t know—I kinda skipped something that happened today in Darius’ office.”

There was shuffling behind him. Alfred looked through the mirror to see Ravinder had come to stand behind him.

“What did you skip?”

“You know how last month when we were all together talking about blow jobs and I said I’d never had one?”

Ravinder nodded.

Alfred met Ravinder’s eyes in the mirror. “I can’t say that anymore.”

“Atta boy!” Ravinder cheered. “Then why the long face? Wasn’t it as good as we said?”

“Better. And I didn’t feel bad about it afterward. I just—I would have loved to have him alone at home because I wanted so much more. Now I’m thinking maybe we should have sex before meeting his mother.”

Ravinder patted his shoulder. “No. You shouldn’t. Because if you meet his mother and she hates you, then you won’t know what it feels like to have that ass taken by this force of a man.”

“But what if I meet his mother and she hates me, then I’ll have the regret of not knowing what it felt like to…well…you know?”

“Okay, now who is making a mountain out of an anthill?” Ravinder laughed. “Don’t overthink this, man. You do that all the time.” Ravinder walked back to the closet and returned with the black pair of shoes he’d asked for earlier. “Wear these with the pants and that shirt. You’ll look fine. And did you get the flowers that we talked about?”

“Yeah. They’re in the kitchen in some water.”

“Good. Relax, bro—you got this.”

Alfred laughed, hugged Ravinder tightly then rushed into the bathroom to brush his teeth before changing.
